Dealer and other garages tell me transmission oil should be changed every 50KM. But based on user's manual, it is 240,000KM for transmission oil change. I checked my another car Pontiac G5, it is conditional to change transmission oil at 80KM, 160KM, and 240KM if the car is driven in slow city traffic with high termparature, or driven in Introduction. The oil for MTX-75 is designed with fill-for-life which is 'supposed' no need to be changed. However if you are going to change the oil for any reason, here is the way to do it. The oil spec for the gearbox is a bit confusing. For Mk1 the spec is ESD-M2C-186-A, on Mk2 and Mk3 the spec is WSD-M2C200-C. I am approaching 500 track miles and plan to change the fluid in the rear drive unit soon per the manual. But on talking to one of the mechanics he advised me to change the gearbox oil. The oil he recommended was Comma MT75/MTX75. This is a mineral oil as to the synthetic oil fitted by Ford. Mine has a particularly stiff and notchy 2nd gear so it will be interesting to see if it makes any difference at all! I'll report back in due course.
