I know people say "Oh, you just have to put in over 1000 hours and get used to it" but fuck that. The combat is broken and there is no getting used to it. Last, but not least. If you want a game like this Mount and Blade is not for you. Skyrim is or any other game where you just can jump in and be the best at everything right away.

I highly recommend opening the base game, Mount and Blade: Warband, and playing the tutorial there. The mechanics of melee based combat do not change in Napoleonic Wars. Melee combat is easier in third person mode as it gives you a better view of the area and lets you see if someone is sneaking up behind you (hit 'R' to change mode).

Honestly I'm just hoping that either Taleworlds adds this feature back in (that's been in every M&B game for 12 years) or somebody is able to mod it in. A common complain is that it lacks a variety of weapons and armors. I think it fully makes up for that with the huge addition of features. You just have to take into account that VC isn't just "Warband with vikings". Everything is different in some way, especially the combat.

Mount&Blade/Arena. The arena is where you fight to gain proficiencies and scaling gold on how many enemies you knock out. Combatants will gang up on an opponent and then start fighting each other. There are 40 opponents (not counting yourself), and they will spawn a few at a time as combatants are defeated.
